Not Searching, But Finding

Four distinct crack patterns on the desert floor

With all the driving I do, it's common to stop alongside a road for a break. These range from well-traveled paved roads to rocky, less frequented ones. The stops are usually for grabbing snacks or finding an appropriate bio break spot. What I have found over the years is that these breaks sometimes result in the camera coming out unexpectedly. As was the case here just outside of Death Valley. I could see some cracks from the road, but it wouldn't have been something I would have stopped for. Yet the act of slowing down for another reason altogether resulted in seeing what lay not far from the edge of the road. The break took a few minutes longer due to this "distraction," yet I would say it was time well spent. I am not sure another car passed during the time I was there. I could hear the quiet linger in the air. A less traveled road for this stop.

Camera and Processing
- Canon R5, RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM @100mm, f/22, 1/5 second, ISO 160
- Processing mainly involved working with the colors to bring them a little more life and a minor crop for cleaner edges.
