Beyond all the wild spaces found in Oregon, we also have many beautiful gardens. This workshop with David Cobb and me will be based out of a garden resort in the Willamette Valley. From the sights to the smells, the abundance of flowers will be your opportunity to slow down and get in close. Some locations will lend themselves to the wider garden scene, yet more often we will be seeking out smaller arrangements, or even a single flower or plant, to photograph with a longer lens or macro. We will cover techniques from focus stacking to cramming to help you create work that interests you.
We will photograph the garden onsite along with others in the area during spring flower season. Even though the gardens will be the focus, we do plan on going to at least one other location not garden-related that has multiple waterfalls. This workshop is a little different in that you will be required to book lodging at the Oregon Garden Resort, the same location we are staying at. This is the only way to gain access to the adjacent garden outside of general public hours, which we plan to visit at least once. Additionally, during any downtime you will have the opportunity to visit on your own if interested, along with an original house architected by the renowned Frank Lloyd Wright.
Beyond David being a long-time friend and peer, he has worked on multiple garden books, making him a great co-lead for this workshop.
